New leader appointed for West Lindsey council

A new leader is set to be appointed at West Lindsey District Council by the Conservatives after the party retained control of the authority at the local elections.

Councillor Giles McNeill has been elected to take over the role, while Councillor Owen Bierley will remain deputy leader.

Councillor McNeill will take over as leader from Councillor Jeff Summers following a vote at the local party’s annual general meeting.

Conservative leader voted out following West Lindsey District Council elections

The Conservatives are clinging onto their majority and the party leader has been voted out after a series of shock results in the West Lindsey District Council elections.

And if that was not enough for the Tories, ousted leader Jeff Summers says he is now considering becoming an Independent - a move that would plunge the council into a ‘hung’ set up, with no party in overall control.

Councillor John Matthews has been re-elected as Chairman of the Council and Mayor for Civic Year 2019/20

Councillor Stephen Bunney has been re-elected as Vice Chairman of the Council and Deputy Mayor for Civic Year 2019/20
